A teenager suspected of fatally shooting his uncle turned himself into police Wednesday, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Carlos McNair, 16, and Anthony Tyrone Link, 37, got into an argument during a family gathering about 11:45 p.m. July 20 in a home at 2576 16th Ave. S, according to an arrest affidavit.

Family members had told Link to get out, and as he was leaving in his car, McNair pulled a gun and fired a number of times, the affidavit said. One round hit Link in the abdomen.

Wounded, Link drove away, but he didn’t get far before crashing his Mercedes-Benz in the 1500 block of 26th St S, in the Wildwood Heights neighborhood, investigators say. The crash was about half a mile from the barbershop Link owned, ATL Barber Shop and Salon.

When authorities responded to the crash scene, they found Link’s body inside his vehicle.

People from the neighborhood set up a makeshift memorial for Link at the barbershop, calling him an asset to the community and a man with a good heart. He had operated the barbershop for about nine years.

McNair is facing a second-degree murder charge, but the investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible, police said.
