A man faces a murder charge and an attempted murder charge after a woman’s body was found Friday in Clearwater, according to the Clearwater Police Department.
Joshua Henderson, 34, was charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, police said. Henderson was booked into Pinellas County Jail.
At 3:12 p.m., officers received reports of a shooting in the area of Otten Street and Weston Drive. A woman was shot in a 2020 Nissan Sentra, and Henderson later abandoned the car a mile away, police said.
The woman’s body was found inside the car at the 1700 block of Townsend Street 10 minutes later, the Police Department said in a news release. She later was identified as Shyanne Turner, 20, who was in a relationship with Henderson, according to police.
Henderson was apprehended near a retention pond a few streets over from where the car containing Turner’s body had been abandoned. Henderson pulled a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputy underwater during the arrest and held him under, according to police.
Henderson is being questioned by homicide detectives.
The homicide case had two active scenes, the department said in a Facebook post Friday evening.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and the Gulfport Police Department assisted in the investigation, the Clearwater Police Department said.
