Man, 58, killed by hit-run driver while crossing First Ave. N in St. Petersburg

A black car hit Hollis Heatherley, throwing him to the ground, then kept driving. Police still are looking for the car.

ST. PETERSBURG — A Clearwater Beach man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Sunday night while crossing First Avenue North in a crosswalk, St. Petersburg police said.

Hollis Heatherley, 58, died at the scene of the 9:30 p.m. crash, near 16th Street North, police said. A black sports car hit Heatherley, throwing him to the ground, then kept driving.

The car has damage, police said. Police still are looking for it.
