Clearwater police have arrested a man who they say broke down an apartment door and shot a man to death.

Police said in a news release Friday that both men were “involved in a relationship with the same woman.”

The shooting occurred just after 2 a.m. Wednesday at Bay Cove Apartments, located at 19135 U.S. 19 N.

Police said Stuart Beck, 21, broke down the door to get into the apartment and then shot 20-year-old Michael Conrad, who was inside the apartment.

Suzanne Beck, Stuart Beck’s mother, told the Times her son is on the lease for the Bay Cove apartment where the shooting occurred.

Conrad was taken to Morton Plant Hospital, where he later died.

Stuart Beck and Conrad have known each other since at least April, Rob Shaw, a spokesperson for the Clearwater Police Department, said in an email Friday.

Police said they were able to “quickly identify” Beck as the shooter. He was arrested by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office on an out-of-county warrant in Holiday on Thursday evening, an arrest affidavit said. Beck was booked into a Pasco County jail and is facing a charge of first-degree murder, according to jail records.

No other details were immediately released on Friday.
