Tampa Police on Saturday morning announced the arrest of a 37-year-old man who they say fatally shot another man following an argument in Tampa Friday morning.

Alberto Rodriguez Stephenson was arrested late Friday night, according to a news release from the agency. He faces one felony charge of premeditated murder with a firearm.

Officers arrived at the intersection of East Busch Boulevard and North Connechusett Road around 8:30 a.m. Friday and found an unresponsive adult man with upper body trauma, the Tampa Police Department said. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

According to the release, Rodriguez Stephenson arrived and “engaged in a confrontation” with the man, then got a gun and shot him before fleeing.

On Saturday, police said detectives were able to gather video surveillance from surrounding businesses that captured the confrontation between the victim and Rodriguez Stephenson, as well as the suspect fleeing the scene and traveling westbound on East Busch Boulevard.

Police did not provide the victim’s name, age or other identifying information. Police said Rodriguez Stephenson and the victim knew each other.

Police said detectives were able to positively identify Rodriguez Stephenson as the suspect “through investigative means.”
