Deputies make arrest in fatal shooting near Brandon auto parts store

Sheriff’s officials said they were called to a report of shots fired and found a wounded man who was pronounced dead on the scene.

Hillsborough deputies have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection to a fatal shooting in Brandon on Friday.

Deputies responded to a call of shots fired near the Advanced Auto Parts at the intersection of E Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard and Highview Road about 4:25 p.m., according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. They found Gregory Hornsby and a man who had been shot.

The wounded man died at the scene.

Detectives determined an altercation between Hornsby and the victim led to the shooting, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office did not release the victim’s name due to Marsy’s Law.

Hornsby was arrested and booked in the Hillsborough County jail early Saturday morning on charges of first degree murder with a firearm and aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony with a weapon. He was being held without bond.
