Clearwater police have arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with a fatal shooting of another teen earlier this week.

The boy faces charges of manslaughter and violation of probation in connection to the death of Jacques Ford, 16.

The Tampa Bay Times is not naming the teen in this story because of his age and the nature of the charge and allegations.

Ford died after being shot Tuesday inside an apartment in the 1200 block of Engman Street where the suspect lives, Clearwater police said in a news release Thursday.

Witnesses told police the two boys were “play fighting” when the 16-year-old picked up a gun. Police said “the weapon went off during the physical exchange” and Ford was hit.

Ford died later that day after being taken to Morton Plant Hospital, according to information previously released by police.

Police received a call about the incident at 4:13 p.m. Tuesday.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives may bring additional charges, police said.
