A Seffner man was arrested Tuesday after deputies say he tried to kill four people during a large fight in Riverview in December.

Darcy Washington, 44, was arrested Tuesday on multiple charges, including two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder and three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

According to a news release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting stemmed from “a verbal altercation that turned physical” on Dec. 20. At 5:48 p.m. that day, multiple people reported a shooting at a home on the 10000 block of Sweet Sapling Street in Riverview.

When deputies arrived, they found three people with gunshot wounds that were not determined to be life-threatening. A fourth person who tried to break up the fight was “physically assaulted” and shot at, but not struck, the news release states.

According to an arrest report for Washington, a fight was reported at the home earlier in the day. One of the victims told deputies that three women involved in the fight said they were going to “call their daddy,” the report states.

About an hour later, Washington arrived with “a bunch of people” in a red Ford Explorer SUV and demanded to know who hit his daughter and granddaughter, the report states.

When one of the victims tried to de-escalate the situation, Washington lunged at him, “striking him in the face,” the arrest report states. A large fight between approximately 15 and 20 people then began in the front yard.

Video footage from the fight shows Washington walking back to the Ford Explorer and retrieving a black handgun from a woman standing in the driver’s side doorway of the SUV. No one from the fight followed him toward the vehicle, the report states.

Washington then produced the handgun “at full presentation using both arms,” the report states. When the four victims saw the gun, they began to retreat into the house, the report states. Washington then fired six shots toward the crowd.

One victim was struck with one round above her right kneecap while she was inside the house with the front door open. Another was struck in both legs while on the front porch, and the third was struck in the right buttocks while inside the doorway.

Washington fired at a fourth person but missed. The three who were shot were treated at Tampa General Hospital for their injuries, the report states.

Deputies found six spent 9 mm shell casings at the scene, the report states.

Records show Washington was being held at the Falkenburg Road Jail without bond on Thursday.
