New principals in Hillsborough County

Seven schools have new leaders as of July 1.

Seven principal promotions and transfers were announced Tuesday in Hillsborough County, including a leadership position for the state’s Assistant Principal of the Year. Zemenaye Harris, 38, will leave Booker T. Washington Elementary to become principal of Lopez Elementary School. She has worked for the Hillsborough school district since 2008.

Other principal appointments:

  • David Parker, 36, to Madison Middle School. Parker joined the district in 2011 and was assistant principal of Buchanan Middle School.
  • Joshua Phillips, 35, to Lutz K-8 School. Phillips joined the district in 2009 and is assistant principal of Maniscalco K-8.
  • Brooke Quinlan, 39, to Burney Elementary School. Quinlan joined the district in 2004 and worked last as assistant principal of Foster Elementary School.
  • Melody Murphy, 57, to Jackson Elementary School. Murphy joined the district in 1990 and is now principal of Riverview Elementary School.
  • Denise Wheatley, 57, to Roosevelt Elementary School. Wheatley joined the district in 2002 and is now interim principal at Roosevelt.
  • Jennifer West, 43, to Tampa Heights Elementary School. West joined the district in 1999 and worked most recently as supervisor of K-12 gifted instruction.
