The Hernando County School District on Tuesday became the latest to announce its plan to stop requiring mask use at its properties and events.

School Board members unanimously accepted superintendent John Stratton’s recommendation to end the mandate after June 18, the final day of the semester. The change to voluntary masks will affect all students, staff members and visitors.

It will be in place beginning with summer school classes.

The board also approved a proposal to allow all high school graduation ceremonies to be mask optional. Each event is scheduled to take place outdoors, and will observe social distancing practices that principals are expected to maintain throughout the activities.
