ST. LEO—Saint Leo University president William J. Lennox Jr. announced his retirement April 30, according to a news release.
The university's board of trustees named Jeffrey D. Senese, the university's first provost and senior vice president of academic and student affairs, as acting president.
Lennox, who became Saint Leo's ninth president in 2015, said in a news release that he intended to be a transitional president between his predecessor Arthur Kirk and a president he hoped would serve long-term.
He was a university trustee before becoming president and previously served as a U.S. Army lieutenant general and as superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy.
Senese was named provost in January.
He previously worked at Cardinal Stritch University, Johnson & Wales University, Philadelphia University and Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
