College notebook: SPC welcomes students back for the fall, Eckerd program gets new leader

SPC offers 'welcome back' events

St. Petersburg College is hosting a variety of events to welcome students back for the fall semester. One is a free one-day seminar, "Off on the Right Foot," to be held at the midtown, downtown and Clearwater campuses. The events include 40-minute workshops, plus breakfast and lunch. Workshop topics include time management, study skills, work and life balance, career choices, and tips from other successful students. One will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Midtown Center, 1300 22nd St. S in St. Petersburg. The others will be held at the same time Aug. 28 at the Downtown Center, 244 Second Ave. N, St. Petersburg, and the Clearwater Campus, 2465 Drew St. Students are encouraged to register online as space is limited. Eckerd program gets new director

Monica Kile has been named director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Eckerd College. She will manage the program's community of 1,400 lifelong learners, providing them and hundreds of non-members throughout Pinellas County with non-credit, non-degree granting classes, workshops, lectures, educational travel, and social activities. Kile is a former executive director of St. Petersburg Preservation and the Suncoast Tiger Bay Club. She also was special projects director for the Florida Humanities Council.
