St. Petersburg College announced Thursday that is has developed a "transitional team" to help advise, enroll and provide financial assistance to local students of ITT Technical Institute.
ITT Tech, a for-profit school, closed its campuses nationwide on Tuesday, saying a series of conditions imposed by the U.S. Department of Education made it impossible for them to continue operating. It's Tampa campus was at 809 Memorial Highway.
Officials at SPC said ITT Tech students could enrolled as soon as Monday for the current session, or by Oct. 10 for the school's eight-week fall session. The college is waiving its $40 application fee.
The move follows a decision by Hillsborough Community College earlier this week to form a "rapid response team" to help ITT Tech students with advising, financial aid, transcript evaluation, counseling and other services.
"We are prepared to assist ITT Technical Institute students who are looking to finish their degrees or certification programs," said SPC President Bill Law. "This is an unfortunate situation that has affected thousands of students working to build a better future for themselves and their families through their pursuit of higher education, and we hope we can accommodate ITT Tech students in achieving those goals."
Students can contact SPC at (727) 341-4400 or email@example.com.
In Hillsborough, the HCC response team will be available from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Prospective students should call (813) 253-7295 for more information.
