Library note

Teen Anti-Valentine's Day Dance, 7 p.m. today, at the Land O'Lakes Library, 2818 Collier Parkway. Dance the night away with a DJ playing requests. Smash a heart pinata and destroy a bunch of obnoxious chalky heart candies in a clog-dancing whirlwind. Admission is free, as are the regular snacks and drinks. A $5 donation to the Friends of the Library gains entrance to the VIP room for unlimited video gaming, plus free pizza, Monster and (non-valentine) candy. For grades 6 to 12. Briefly

• The Florida FIRST Tech Challenge State Championship will be Saturday at Saint Leo University, 33701 State Road 52, St. Leo. The public is welcome to watch Florida's top 24 high school robotics teams compete, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Marion Bowman Activities Center. Admission and parking are free.

Contests

• Saint Leo University invites high school mathematicians to participate in the American Mathematics Competition by taking the AMC 10 or AMC 12 exam. Saint Leo is the only college or university in Central Florida hosting the exams, and is making participation available free to students. AMC 10 and AMC 12 are multiple-choice exams that require students to use algebra and geometry concepts to solve problems. The test will be given at 4 p.m. Feb. 25 at TECO Hall, in the School of Business building at the university, 33701 State Road 52, St. Leo. For information, go to maa.org/math-competitions/amc-1012. Seven Springs Elementary Students of the Month: Ena Beganovic, Deuce Beck, Preston Espinosa, David Frangione, Elijah Halbig, Chris Hernandez, Kaileem Laurore, Aimee Lockwood, Kenny Ngo, Elaina Wright-Osment, Cameran Popvics, Alaina Stokes, Kayli Stonger and Emily Trac.

The Florida Association of School Nurses has selected Kathy Browning, a district liaison and school nurse at Lacoochee Elementary School, as Florida's 2015 School Nurse of the Year. Browning has worked for Pasco County schools since 1992, except between 2007 and 2009. She is a registered nurse with a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Florida. This year, Browning accepted the added role of district support liaison, with responsibility for orientation and mentoring of new school nurses.
