SPC dance company offers fall concert in clearwater

CoMotion Dance Theatre, the resident dance company at St. Petersburg College, will present its Fall 2015 Dance Concert through Saturday at the Arts Auditorium on the SPC Clearwater Campus, 2465 Drew Street. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. tonight and Saturday. Admission is $5 general admission and free for SPC students and staff with a school ID.

Saturday: Eckerd hosts live broadcast from The Met

Alban Berg's Lulu, the fourth of 10 live high-definition broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera at Eckerd College, will be presented at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the school's Miller Auditorium. A description from The Met: "A new production from acclaimed director William Kentridge applies his unique theatrical vision to Berg's notorious femme fatale who shatters lives, including her own. The masterful score is in the sure hands of Met Music Director James Levine. Soprano Marlis Petersen has excited audiences around the world with her portrayal of the tour-de-force title role, a wild journey of love, obsession and death. Susan Graham joins a winning cast, including Daniel Brenna and Johan Reuter." Tickets are $25 each. Members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and the Association of Senior Professionals at Eckerd College enjoy discounted prices. 'The Assassin' plays in Eckerd cinema series

Eckerd College's International Cinema Series continues with a showing of The Assassin at 7 p.m. tonight in Miller Auditorium on campus. When an assassin fails to kill one of her targets, she is punished by being ordered to kill the man she was once betrothed to. Directed by Hou Hsiao-hsien, the film played at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, where Hou was awarded best director. Justin Chang of Variety wrote: "Shot for shot, it's perhaps the most ravishingly beautiful film Hou has ever made, and certainly one of his most deeply transporting."
