Public schools across the Tampa Bay area will be closed through Tuesday due to Hurricane Irma, officials say. The word came Saturday from the Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando county school districts.

Dozens of schools in the region were being used for shelters.

Those who need shelter information in Hillsborough should visit the county's website for more information.

In Pinellas, residents are urged to visit the county's emergency management website for shelter information.

Pasco residents can get shelter information on the school district website.

The Hernando district also has a list of shelters on its website.

Hillsborough school officials said in a statement: "We encourage all of our families and employees to finalize their preparations and prepare for Hurricane Irma."

Pinellas officials said it was too early to determine the hurricane's impact on school operations for Wednesday, and will give updates when they are available.
