Former commissioner to run for School Board
Rose Rocco, a former county commissioner and unsuccessful candidate for the state House of Representatives, has announced she will run for the Hernando County School Board next year.
Rocco, 74, of Spring Hill will seek the District 2 seat currently held by Matt Foreman.
"I think I could be a plus on the board," she said, adding that she would focus on improving the district's relationship with the community and getting more support from the state.
Foreman, who was appointed to fill a vacancy on the board in 2011 and was elected the next year, has not prequalified for re-election and has said he does not plan to run.
Rocco served on the commission from 2006 to 2010, when she lost her bid for re-election. She was defeated in races for the state House in 2012 and 2014.
