Students donate books to fellow school

As part of a service project, fourth and fifth graders from Cork Elementary School hosted a book drive with Jackson Elementary School as the recipients. Student representatives from each school met each other as more than 1,800 books were delivered to Jackson Elementary School.

RIVERVIEW HIGH SCHOOL

Softball field dedicated to coach

In memory of former Riverview High School softball coach Angela Slater, who died in February after a battle with cancer, the school's softball field will be renamed Slater Family Field. She was a softball coach for 30 years, with her 18 years at the high school including two state title wins. Slater's three children graduated from Riverview High School and her husband Ron is a science teacher who served as assistant coach with Slater.

HEBREW ACADEMY

Groundbreaking set for new school

A ceremony marking the start of construction on Hebrew Academy will take place on Sunday. Planned as the first Jewish Montessori school in Central Florida, the 11,000-square foot building will include outdoor learning decks for each classroom and a media, library and drama center.

School hosts Special Olympics event

The Jesuit Dads' Club hosted the Special Olympics Florida's 2016 Area 8 Summer Games at Jesuit High School. The event featured several hundred student volunteers, as well as athletes and supporters, with the Dads' Club also receiving a Community Spirit Award from Special Olympics — Hillsborough County.

MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY

High schools square off in robotics competition

Student teams from eleven high schools participated in a robotics competition Saturday morning at the Museum of Science and Industry. The event kicked off National Robotics Week at the museum, which include robot races and 3D robot building.

TAMPA BAY TECH HIGH SCHOOL

Students to host launch of manufacturing alliance

The Manufacturing Alliance of Hillsborough County will be launched Thursday at Tampa Bay Tech High School. Students will give visitors a tour of the manufacturing lab, demonstrate their welding simulator and show the skills they are learning from their experience.
