CLEARWATER — For manatees, a day on the beach isn't fun.
Up to seven manatees learned that the hard way Wednesday when they washed ashore on Clearwater Beach near the Palm Pavilion Inn around 3 p.m., according to the Clearwater Fire and Rescue Department.
Four were able to get themselves back into the Gulf, but three remained stranded. Firefighters and members of the public worked together to drag the sea cows back into the water.
The manatees may have been beached by high winds and rough waves after swimming in shallow water, the department said.
