TALLAHASSEE — Attorney General Ashely Moody formally started her 2022 re-election bid Wednesday, opening a campaign account at the state Division of Elections.

Moody, a Tampa Republican, has long raised money for her political committee, Friends of Ashley Moody, which likely will play a key role as she seeks a second term.

The committee, which had nearly $2.1 million on hand as of July 31, raised more than $1.5 million in the first seven months of this year. No other candidates have opened campaign accounts to run for the Cabinet post.
