The Weeknd, Matchbox Twenty, Janet Jackson, others scrap Florida concerts

Orlando and Tampa will both lose major shows due to the coronavirus.

Another summer concert is going down at Tampa’s MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre. But this time, other venues are feeling the pain, too.

Florida’s own Matchbox Twenty is the latest artist to cancel a show at the Live Nation-owned amphitheater, following the lead of more than a dozen artists this week. Their Aug. 7 show, like the rest of the tour, will be postponed until 2021. Click here for details.

At the Yuengling Center, rapper NF had already postponed his concert from May 1 to July 21. Now he’s elected to cancel his tour entirely, “so you guys can get your full refunds.” Click here.

While neither Janet Jackson nor Amalie Arena has officially mentioned what’s happening with her June 27 concert in Tampa, Ticketmaster says it has been postponed, with no new date yet announced. Click here.

In Clearwater, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo have postponed their Aug. 12 concert at Ruth Eckerd Hall until a date yet to be announced. And guitarist Leo Kottke, who had already postponed his show at the Bilheimer Capitol Theatre from April 13 to June 20, has now pushed it all the way back to Jan. 13. Click here.

In St. Petersburg, the Struts have postponed their June 12 concert at Jannus Live until sometime in the future. Click here. And the Revivalists have rescheduled their postponed April concert at Jannus Live until Nov. 5. Click here.

And over in Orlando, the Weekend, who has one of the biggest singles in recent months with Blinding Lights, has postponed his July 21 concert at the Amway Center to July 19, 2021. According to an announcement on Twitter, he’ll announce more dates soon. So maybe a Tampa show will be in the works.
