Florida boasts the third-highest number of people experiencing homelessness in the country: 28,328 according to last year’s estimate. Many of these Floridians sleep unsheltered on the streets, in cars or in parks while an estimated 16,000 stay in homeless shelters.
Keith Wilkinson, 63, never expected to be among them. Spring training quickly fell victim to coronavirus, and with it his job at the New York Yankees Training Camp. He got evicted not long after. Meet Wilkinson in the player below, and tag along as host Austin Fast visits two Pinellas County homeless shelters to see how they’re battling the dual crises of homelessness and COVID-19.
