Gary Tibbetts, a longtime staff member for U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, died on Friday from coroanvirus, according to the Congressman’s twitter account. He was 66.
“Gary was the consummate professional and a true public servant in every sense of the word,” Buchanan wrote on Twitter. “He touched so many lives and was loved and respected by those who knew him.”
Tibbetts died at Manatee Memorial Hospital, where he was being treated for coronavirus since July 15.
Buchanan’s office previously said Tibbett did not have any recent interactions with anyone else in the office.
Tibbetts had worked for Buchanan since 2011.
Florida Senate President Bill Galvano, whose district overlaps with Buchanan’s, said Tibbetts was “loved by so many in our community.”
