Florida added 8,555 coronavirus cases Tuesday and 73 deaths.
Florida is creeping closer to logging a total of 1 million infections, with 953,300 cases recorded since March. About 7,997 cases are announced per day, according to the weekly average.
Across the state, 18,383 people have died from the virus. The death average decreased slightly to about 75 people announced dead per day.
Just under 120,000 coronavirus tests were processed Monday, with a daily positivity rate of 7.47 percent.
Hospitalizations: About 3,700 people are hospitalized with a primary diagnosis of coronavirus, according to the Agency for Health Care Administration. About 800 of those are in the Tampa Bay area.
The number of people hospitalized has been steadily increasing in recent weeks as the number of cases have risen.
About 25 percent of hospital beds and 23 percent of intensive care unit beds were available across Florida. In Tampa Bay, about 24 percent of hospital beds and 22 percent of ICU beds were available.
Cases that led to a hospitalization increased by 333 admissions.
Positivity: Florida’s average weekly positivity rate is about 8 percent, according to Johns Hopkins University. It is one of 45 states that doesn’t meet the World Health Organization’s recommendation for a rate of 5 percent or below.
The 8 percent figure is down slightly from earlier in the week as testing has gone up. When the positivity rate is too high, it indicates there isn’t enough widespread testing to capture mild and asymptomatic coronavirus cases.
Local numbers: Tampa Bay added 1,285 coronavirus cases and 16 deaths Tuesday.
Nine deaths were reported in Pinellas, three were in Hernando, two were in Manatee and two were in Pasco. No new deaths were reported in Hillsborough, Polk and Citrus counties.
Pasco leads the area with a 10 percent average weekly positivity rate, followed by Citrus and Hernando at 9 percent, Hillsborough, Manatee and Polk at 7 percent and Pinellas at 6 percent.
As of the latest counts, Hillsborough has 56,166 cases and 897 deaths; Pinellas has 31,464 cases and 885 deaths; Polk has 26,691 cases and 671 deaths; Manatee has 16,065 cases and 371 deaths; Pasco has 13,982 cases and 269 deaths; Hernando has 4,697 cases and 203 deaths; and Citrus has 4,408 cases and 159 deaths.
