Florida reported 6,297 coronavirus cases and 225 deaths Tuesday, bringing the total number of deaths since March to 29,659.

There have been 1,837,285 infections statewide over the course of the pandemic.

On average, the Florida Department of Health has reported 6,649 infections and 162 deaths per day this week. It can take officials up to two weeks to confirm and report a coronavirus-related death, meaning the number of deaths added does not necessarily reflect the number of people who died the previous day.

The health department processed nearly 101,000 tests on Monday, with a daily positivity rate of about 6.6 percent.

Vaccinations: Florida has vaccinated 2,430,637 people according to Tuesday’s report, with 16,941 people receiving their first dose on Monday and 16,332 people receiving the second dose. So far, 1,135,963 people have received both doses needed for immunity, while 1,294,674 people have received just one dose.

In Hillsborough County, 114,923 people have been vaccinated, in Pinellas, 108,789, in Pasco, 49,902, in Manatee, 41,480, in Polk, 54,715, in Hernando, 19,591, and in Citrus, 20,039.

Hospitalizations: As of Tuesday, Florida hospitals were treating 4,646 patients for COVID-19, including 931 people in the Tampa Bay region.

The Health Department reported 314 new admissions Tuesday, including 78 admissions locally.

About 20 percent of hospital beds and 19 percent of adult intensive care unit beds were available statewide. In Tampa Bay, about 18 percent of hospital beds and 18 percent of adult ICU beds were open.

Positivity: Florida’s positivity rate was about 7 percent Tuesday, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Before reopening, states should maintain a positivity rate of 5 percent or less for at least two weeks, according to the World Health Organization. A positivity rate of 5 percent or less indicates that testing is widespread enough to capture mild, asymptomatic and negative cases.

The District of Columbia and 25 states currently have a positivity rate below 5 percent.

Local numbers: Tampa Bay added 1,221 cases and 64 deaths Tuesday.

Polk County added 20 deaths, while Hillsborough County added 16 deaths. Pinellas and Pasco aded 12 deaths each. Citrus County added two deaths and Hernando and Manatee counties added one death each.

Citrus County’s positivity rate was 9 percent. Polk and Hernando counties had positivity rates of 8 percent. Hillsborough and Pasco were at 7 percent. Manatee and Pinellas counties had positivity rates of 6 percent.

As of the latest count, Hillsborough has 106,996 cases and 1,434 deaths, Pinellas has 63,568 cases and 1,397 deaths, Polk has 54,829 cases and 1,085 deaths, Manatee has 30,557 cases and 556 deaths, Pasco has 31,872 cases and 620 deaths, Hernando has 10,745 cases and 373 deaths, and Citrus has 9,392 cases and 367 deaths.
