Florida recorded 4,237 coronavirus cases Monday, bringing the statewide total to 2,173,138 since the start of the pandemic.

The weekly case average increased to about 6,756 infections announced per day.

On Monday, the Florida Department of Health also announced 33 deaths from COVID-19. The weekly death average decreased slightly to about 60 people announced dead per day. In just over a year, 35,142 people in Florida have died from the virus.

About 66,000 coronavirus tests were processed on Sunday, resulting in a single-day positivity rate of 7.9 percent.

Vaccinations: As of Monday, 8,069,752 people in Florida have been vaccinated against the coronavirus, an increase of 53,311 from the day prior.

Of the more than 8 million vaccinated, about 5 million have completed their full immunization series.

In Hillsborough, 494,428 people have been vaccinated; in Pinellas, 391,692; in Polk, 212,467; in Manatee, 159,213; in Pasco, 187,102; in Hernando, 63,428; and in Citrus, 57,018.

Hospitalizations: About 3,400 people in Florida are hospitalized with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19, according to the Agency for Health Care Administration. About 775 of those hospitalized are in the Tampa Bay area.

About 22 percent of Florida’s hospital beds and 24 percent of intensive care unit beds were available as of Monday afternoon. Locally, about 21 percent of hospital beds and 23 percent of ICU beds were available.

Cases that resulted in a hospitalization increased by 62 admissions.

Positivity: Florida’s average weekly positivity rate is about 11 percent, according to Johns Hopkins University. It is one of 26 states that fails to meet the World Health Organization’s recommendation for an average weekly positivity rate of 5 percent or below.

When the positivity rate is too high, it indicates there isn’t enough widespread testing to capture mild and asymptomatic cases of the virus.

Local numbers: Tampa Bay recorded 827 coronavirus cases and three deaths on Monday.

One death each was recorded in Citrus, Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. There were no new deaths reported in Hernando, Polk, Pasco and Manatee counties.

Hernando, Hillsborough and Polk counties lead the area with the highest average weekly positivity rate at about 10 percent. Citrus followed at about 8 percent, then Manatee at about 7 percent and Pinellas at about 6 percent.

As of the latest count, Hillsborough has 130,329 coronavirus cases and 1,681 deaths; Pinellas has 76,792 coronavirus cases and 1,599 deaths; Polk has 65,084 coronavirus cases and 1,295 deaths; Manatee has 36,938 coronavirus cases and 664 deaths; Pasco has 39,145 coronavirus cases and 727 deaths; Hernando has 13,241 coronavirus cases and 454 deaths; and Citrus has 10,718 coronavirus cases and 438 deaths.
