Florida officials reported 12,157 coronavirus cases over the seven-day period from June 4 to June 10. That brings the total number of cases up to 2,300,786 since the pandemic’s first two cases in Florida were reported more than 15 months ago on March 1, 2020.

The state added 280 deaths in the past week, bringing the total statewide number of deaths since the pandemic began to 37,265. The Florida Department of Health announced a week ago that it would no longer release daily COVID-19 data. Instead, it is now releasing a weekly report every Friday, but has withheld some information that was publicly available before.

The state said 40 deaths were confirmed in the past seven days. It can take officials up to two weeks to confirm and report a coronavirus-related death, meaning the total number of deaths added does not necessarily reflect the number of people who died the previous week.

As of June 4, the state no longer reports non-resident vaccinations, coronavirus cases and fatalities. State officials have declined repeated requests to provide non-resident data to the Tampa Bay Times.

Florida is the only state that updates coronavirus only once per week. Experts warn that infrequent data updates may delay identification of emerging trends.

Vaccinations: Florida administered 413,880 vaccines in the past week, over 59,000 vaccinations per day on average. The number of first doses administered last week fell to 141,992; down from 151,062 the week before.

So far 55 percent of Florida residents age 12 and up have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to the state, up from 53 percent last week.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 61 percent of Florida’s adults age 18 and up have been vaccinated. President Joe Biden has set a goal of getting 70 percent of U.S. adults at least partially vaccinated by July 4.

More than 80 percent of Floridians over the age of 65 and 71 percent of those ages 60 to 64 have been vaccinated, according to state data. Meanwhile, less than one-third of those ages 12 to 30 have received shots.

In Hillsborough County, 51 percent of residents age 12 and up have been vaccinated; in Pinellas, 55 percent; in Pasco, 51 percent; in Manatee, 54 percent; in Polk, 47 percent; in Hernando, 46 percent; and in Citrus, 49 percent.

Positivity: Florida’s positivity rate was about 3.4 percent in the past week.

Before reopening, states should maintain a positivity rate of 5 percent or less for at least two weeks, according to the World Health Organization. A positivity rate of 5 percent or less indicates testing is widespread enough to capture mild, asymptomatic and negative cases.

Hospitalizations: The state no longer reports how many people were hospitalized across Florida or by county. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 1,820 new hospital admissions of confirmed COVID-19 patients from June 1 to June 8 in Florida, including 557 admissions in Tampa Bay.

There were 171 admission in Hillsborough, 138 in Pinellas, 141 in Polk, 10 in Manatee, 63 in Pasco, 21 in Hernando, and 13 in Citrus.

The state no longer reports deaths by county. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk, Manatee, Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties each recorded fewer than 10 confirmed COVID-19 related deaths in the past week. The federal agency does not report exact deaths by county when the count is under 10.
