Bayfront Health is acquiring the Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center in Crystal River.
Community Health Systems, which owns six Bayfront Health hospitals along Florida's Gulf Coast from Brooksville to Venice, is one of the nation's largest owners and operators of hospitals, with 137 of them in 21 states. The Seven Rivers facility will be the seventh under the local Bayfront umbrella. The ownership change will take effect July 1.
"The addition of Seven Rivers to Bayfront Health extends the geographic reach of our network, providing patients with both greater access to services and continuity of care across the Bayfront network," Joe Mullany, regional president and CEO of Bayfront Health, said in a statement. "It strengthens what we can offer patients and allows us to exchange best practices, achieve operational efficiencies and enhance the care we provide across the entire region."
Bayfront will spend $1.6 million at the 128-bed Seven Rivers center to expand surgical capacity and renovate the main lobby, according to a press release. The hospital is located at 6201 N Suncoast Blvd., in Hernando County.
In December, Adventist Health System, the parent company of Florida Hospital, announced it would buy Bayfront Health Dade City hospital and its related outpatient services. That deal closed in April.
The former CEO of the Dade City hospital will now oversee the Seven Rivers property. Linda Stockton was appointed chief executive officer, and has served as interim CEO at Seven Rivers since April.
