Downtown fire station gets rid of bedbugs

A bedbug infestation was reported Friday in the downtown fire station at 610 Franklin St.

Exterminators disposed of the beds after applying a "high heat treatment" over the weekend, Clearwater public safety spokesman Rob Shaw said. The department set up temporary sleeping quarters in a different part of the building until Monday, when the beds were replaced.

Bedbug-sniffing dogs searched all Clearwater fire stations as a precaution. They found a single bedbug at Station No. 50 at 2681 Countryside Blvd. No firefighters reported bites.
