BROOKSVILLE — Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies said a report Tuesday morning of a person with a gun on the Central High School campus was a “hoax.” Two sweeps of the campus found no evidence of a threat.

The campus was on lockdown at 9 a.m., according to Sheriff’s spokeswoman Denise Moloney. Nearby Pine Grove Elementary, West Hernando Middle and Endeavor Academy also were locked down, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

Central High will stay on lockdown until a roll call of students is complete.

“Investigators say this report appears to be a hoax,” according to a post on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. “At no time was there an active shooter on campus.”
