Man kills his grandfather in Hernando County, deputies say

RIDGE MANOR — A 20-year-old man shot and killed his grandfather early Thursday in Hernando County, deputies said.

Authorities found Dana Gaffney, 57, shot at his home on Wheystone Drive shortly after 8 a.m. He died soon after at a local trauma center, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

Timothy Gaffney faces charges of second degree murder, aggravated assault with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon. Deputies said they caught him two hours after the shooting near his grandfather’s home, following a brief foot chase.

Investigators do not know yet what led to the shooting, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
