Boy, 7, seriously injured while crossing Spring Hill road

The Florida Highway Patrol said the boy was crossing Mariner Boulevard with his family at the time.

SPRING HILL — A 7-year-old boy was seriously injured when he was struck by a car Tuesday evening while crossing busy Mariner Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident took place at about 7 p.m. on Mariner Boulevard near the intersection of Chalmer Street, troopers said.

Jonathan Nunes, age 7, was either walking or using a tricycle to get across Mariner Boulevard, according to the Highway Patrol. Then the 7-year-old somehow entered into the path of a 1997 Honda Civic head south on Mariner, trooper said.

The right front portion of the southbound car struck the child.

Nunes was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa after the collision, troopers said. His injuries were described as serious.

The car’s driver, Thomas C. Goins, 38, of Spring Hill, was not injured in the crash.

No other details about the crash were released.
