The Florida Department of Health in Hernando County, in cooperation with Elder Options, invites area residents and visitors to participate in the “Diabetes Education Empowerment Program,” that will be held from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Fridays, May 1 through June 19.

This is a free six-week, web-based diabetes education class designed to help those with diabetes understand and successfully manage their disease. The series encourages small lifestyle changes and offers information on topics such as understanding the disease, nutritious foods and meal planning, goal setting, physical activity, medications, disease complications and overall health.

Because this is a live, web-based offering, participants must have internet access and be able to access ZOOM on a smart phone, tablet or home computer with a web cam. Classes will be facilitated by Laura Gamba.

There is no cost to participate, but registration is required. Participants will receive a free cookbook upon successful completion of the workshop. To register, email Wendy Bonilla at Participant spaces are limited.
