SPRING HILL — A 66-year-old woman was fatally injured early Saturday when two vehicles collided in an intersection, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash took place just before 5 a.m. at Spring Hill Drive and Barclay Avenue.
A 31-year-old Brooksville man was driving a car west on Spring Hill Drive, approaching Barclay Avenue. A 66-year-old Spring Hill woman was headed south on Barclay Avenue toward the intersection.
Both cars entered the intersection at the same time, troopers said, but it was not known which driver had the light. The front of the 31-year-old driver’s car struck the left driver’s side of the 66-year-old woman’s car.
The woman, who was wearing her seat belt, was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, but later died of her injuries. The man was not wearing his seat belt. He suffered serious injuries.
The Highway Patrol did not release the names of those involved in the crash under its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a state constitutional amendment designed to protect victims of crimes. The agency now omits the names of anyone involved in a crash, regardless of whether a crime was committed. No other information about the crash was released.
