BROOKSVILLE — A motorcyclist was killed Monday morning after the driver of an SUV entered his path on Jefferson Street and hit him, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the 65-year-old biker was driving south on Jefferson Street about 10:40 a.m. when a 64-year-old Clearwater woman struck him as she tried to pull into the parking lot of Florida Cracker Kitchen.

The motorcycle and SUV hit head-on, according to the Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist, who was from Brooksville, was taken to a local hospital but died. The SUV’s driver was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash, troopers said.

The Highway Patrol did not release the names of those involved in the crash because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to the state Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but that deprives the public of information long available under Florida’s public records law.
