Spring Hill man, 18, dies after crashing into tree, utility pole, troopers say

An 18-year-old Spring Hill man is dead after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree, then a utility pole Thursday in Hernando County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The man was driving east on Pinehurst Drive when he lost control near Spring Hill Drive around 4:30 p.m., troopers said. The sedan traveled across the median into the westbound lanes then struck a tree and a utility pole on the shoulder of the road, the Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The man was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said. He was taken to an area hospital, where he died.

The Highway Patrol did not release the name of the driver.
