Hillsborough SWAT team arrests man who barricaded himself in camper, deputies say

SEFFNER — A 27-year-old fugitive trying to hide in a trailer park ran out of places to hide Friday night, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. He was apprehended on the roof of a camper, deputies said.

William Swint was wanted on arrest warrants for burglary, according to the Sheriff's Office. A tip led deputies to Abbey's Wigwam RV Park at 9201 Williams Road at about 6:30 p.m.

Deputies found Swint inside a small camper, but said he barricaded himself and refused to come out.

The SWAT team was called in and negotiators spent two hours trying to convince Swint to surrender. He refused.

Eventually, the SWAT team fired tear gas canisters inside. Then Swint climbed to the roof, deputies said, still refusing to surrender. Deputies used a "less lethal" weapon to subdue and arrest Swint. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital and then will be booked into the Hillsborough County jail. More charges may be pending in this case.
