TAMPA — A Pinellas Park woman was struck and killed by a semitrailer truck Wednesday night as she was walking on U.S. 301, just north of Interstate 4.

Gabrielle Alyssa Marie Jenkins, 20, died at a hospital from injuries she received in the 11:30 p.m. collision, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

It happened as Edwin Ramos, 43, of Lititz, Pa., was driving south in a 2014 Freightliner semi approaching I-4 on U.S. 301.

Ramos couldn’t see the woman walking north in the outside lane of U.S. 301 until the last minute, and despite his evasive maneuver, the semi hit her, according to the Highway Patrol.

The pedestrian later died from her injuries at a hospital.
