United flight from Orlando to Houston diverts to Tampa over smoke smell

The airplane and its 134 passengers landed safely. No smoke or fire was visible.

TAMPA — A United Airlines flight from Orlando to Houston was diverted to Tampa International Airport on Tuesday morning when the crew smelled smoke in the cabin.

United spokesman Charlie Hobart said no smoke or fire was visible.

“Maintenance is now inspecting the aircraft,” Hobart said.

United Flight 2399 and its 134 passengers landed safely, said Tampa International spokeswoman Emily Nipps.
