TAMPA — Police at the University of South Florida say a woman fell to her death Friday afternoon from an upper deck of the university’s Richard A. Beard parking garage.
Investigators did not release the name or age of the woman, but did confirm Friday evening that she is not a student at the university.
Little is known about the circumstances surrounding her death. The 8-story parking facility is in the center of the university’s Tampa campus, at the corner of USF Beard and USF Alumni drives near Research and Innovation Park.
University police received a call reporting the woman’s death about 3:15 p.m., agency spokeswoman Audrey Clarke said. Whether anyone witnessed the incident is still unknown, though investigators are conducting multiple interviews and reviewing security footage.
Just before 4 p.m. on Friday, the university notified students of a police investigation in the parking garage with an emergency text message alert. Police at the scene are allowing students to retrieve their vehicles from the parking garage, but the area will remain closed to the public as the investigation continues, Clarke said.
USF police ask anyone with information about this incident to call (813) 974-2628.
