A pedestrian was killed when he was struck by a car Thursday on I-75 in Hillsborough County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Alfredo Rivera Torres, 30, of Brandon was traveling north on I-75, in the outside lane near the MLK Blvd. exit, around 8:46 p.m.

Miguel Valle Barreto, 71, of Tampa was walking west across the interstate from the exit lane.

Several vehicles, including Torres’ 2013 BMW 328i, swerved in an attempt to avoid Barreto, troopers said.

Torres’ car struck Barreto, who died at the scene.
