TAMPA — Investigators are working to determine what caused a fire that killed one cat and left another missing on the 3900 block of Clearfield Avenue on Thanksgiving afternoon, according to Tampa Fire Rescue.

Fire Rescue spokesman Jason Penny said crews arrived at 3920 N Clearfield Ave at 5:20 p.m. to find flames bellowing from the carport area of the single-story building.

“Firefighters quickly doused the flames and performed a search of the residence,” Penny said. “No one was home at the time except for pets.”

Two dogs were rescued and a bird was found unharmed outside, Penny said, but one cat died and another was missing well into the evening.

Penny said firefighters had the fire under control within 30 minutes, minimizing damage to the home’s interior. Most of the damage was on the outside. No other injuries were reported.
