Tampa woman, 31, killed in wrong-way crash in Plant City

PLANT CITY — A 31-year-old Tampa woman died Wednesday after an SUV crossed the median and collided with her vehicle.

The crash occurred about 10 p.m. as Meagan Thi Baytarian was driving west on State Road 60 in a 2012 Scion XD near Clarence Gordon Jr. Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Gussie L. Haughbrook, 76, of Tampa, was driving a 2015 Dodge Journey when she lost control of the SUV, crossed the grass median and collided with the driver’s side of Baytarian’s vehicle, the Highway Patrol said.

Baytarian died at the scene. Haughbrook was transported to Tampa General with serious injuries. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Investigators had not yet determined if alcohol was a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, the Highway Patrol said.
