BRANDON — A 16-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed Sunday evening when he rode into the path of an SUV, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Terry Martin was pronounced dead at the scene. He did not attend any area high schools, deputies said.

The incident took place at about 7:30 p.m. on N Parsons Avenue, just south of Clemons Road.

A red 2000 Ford Explorer was headed north on N Parsons Avenue when deputies said the teen rode into the SUV’s path. The driver saw the bicyclist right before impact but did not have enough time to avoid a collision, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The front of the SUV struck the left side of the bicycle. The driver, whose name was not released, stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators, deputies said. He did not exhibit signs of impairment.

No charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing.
