RUSKIN — One man is dead after he assaulted a woman and got into a fight with another man early Sunday morning, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

At 12:37 a.m., someone called 911 to report a shooting at a home on the 700 block of Oceanside Circle, the agency reported in a news release.

Authorities say the man who has since died and the woman were at the home, and that earlier, he assaulted her with a knife. She called a man to come to the home to help, deputies said.

Once the second man arrived, there was “an altercation" in the front yard, according to the agency. The first man stabbed the other, who then shot and killed him, deputies said.

Deputies did not further identify any of the people involved. Responders took the man who was stabbed to Tampa General Hospital for treatment, and he is in stable condition, according to deputies.

The agency is still investigating, and no one has been charged yet.
