TAMPA — A 32-year-old pedestrian who was critically injured when he walked into the path of a semitrailer last week has been identified.

Carlos E. Jaramillo, of Tampa, was the man who walked south across Causeway Boulevard and into the path of a freight truck on Feb. 12, the Florida Highway Patrol announced on Wednesday.

The incident took place at about 3:11 a.m. on Feb. 12 on Causeway Boulevard near Winderemre Oaks Lane.

Thomas Paul Koeninger, 57, of Fort Myers, was driving a 2014 semitrailer east on Causeway Boulevard, troopers said.

Then Jaramillo walked south across the eastbound lanes of Causeway Boulevard and entered the path of the truck. He was then struck.

Jaramillo was taken to Tampa General Hospital for emergency medical treatment. He remains hospitalized in serious condition on Wednesday, according to the Highway Patrol.

No charges are pending in this case.
