A third teen has died after a head-on crash on U.S. 92 early Saturday morning.

Edgar Ashton Ortiz, 14, of Plant City, died on Sunday. He was a passenger in a 2008 Ford Escape that crossed the center line on U.S. 92 and struck a Tampa Bay Times delivery truck early Saturday morning, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said

The driver of the Escape, Camilo E. Mustacchio, 17, of Dover, and another passenger, Lexi R. Lapointe, 15, of Seffner, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 12:40 a.m. Saturday near Turkey Creek Road, troopers said.

Troopers said Mustacchio was driving west on U.S. 92 when he crossed the center line and hit a 2005 Peterbilt truck driven by Petar Lakic, 61, of St. Petersburg, who was heading east.

Ortiz was taken by helicopter to Tampa General Hospital. Lakic suffered serious injuries and was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, troopers said.

None of the teens was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Lakic was wearing a seatbelt, troopers said.

Troopers said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Hillsborough school officials said two of the teens attended Strawberry Crest High and one attended Burnett Middle School. Grief counselors were on hand at both schools.

According to a GoFundMe set up for Ortiz’s family, his organs were donated.
