Hillsborough County is still looking to preserve some history.

The county is accepting applications for its historic preservation challenge grant program through 3 p.m. Friday, May 29. Matching grants of up to $250,000 are available for qualifying non-residential projects that promote historic preservation, heritage tourism and economic development within the county.

Online applications and more information are available at the county’s web site at HCFLGov.net/HPCG.

The 2019 grants totaled $1.4 million to 15 projects.

They included: $120,000 to NCJ Investment Company for exterior rehabilitation of The Ritz at 1503 E. Seventh Ave., Tampa; $250,000 to German American Tampa Holdings for exterior improvements to the German American Club at 2105 N. Nebraska Ave., Tampa; and $50,000 to Florida College for architectural and engineering plans to renovate Sutton Hall. The multi-year project will turn the building into the centerpiece of the college’s Temple Terrace campus and when completed, it will serve as a community meeting space, dining and a second-floor woman’s dormitory.
