TAMPA — Two people were injured and three suspects are in custody after a shooting in Tampa’s Robles Park neighborhood.

Officers responded about 3 a.m. to a report of shots heard near the 300 block of East Emily St., according to Tampa police. Officers found an unoccupied white Nissan that had crashed at the corner of Emily and North Avenue and a woman with a gunshot wound nearby.

Officers then located a man with a gunshot wound at a home on Emily Street. Both were reportedly in the Nissan at the time of the shooting, police said. The victims were taken to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries. The woman was critically wounded, police said.

Officers learned three suspects in the shooting were in a grey Toyota Tundra that fled westbound. About 30 minutes later, police tried to conduct a traffic stop on a truck matching that description, but the driver refused to stop, police said. After a brief pursuit, the driver stopped and all three occupants were taken into custody near the 1200 block of E Busch Blvd.

The Tampa Police Department did not release the names of the suspects or their charges because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2018. The law is meant to protect crime victims, but it deprives the public of information that had long been made available in Florida under the state’s public records law.

Police said the shooting does not appear to be a random act. The investigation continued Tuesday.
