SEFFNER — A situation involving a mother who threatened to harm herself and kept her 12-year-old trapped in their home was resolved peacefully on Tuesday, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident started at about 8 a.m. at a residence in the 500 block of County Road 579. The Sheriff’s Office said it received a report that a mother had threatened to harm herself, and would not let her son leave the home.

Sheriff’s negotiators then started talking to the woman. They convinced her to let her 12-year-old leave the home at about 1 p.m., deputies said.

Then the woman left the home. She was taken into custody under the Baker Act, which allows someone to be involuntarily committed to undergo a mental health evaluation.

The Sheriff’s Office did not release the name of the mother or say if she could face charges in this incident.
